All Better

All the wounds have healed and my little boy is put back together again.  The lip has sealed evenly, the shiner has turned back to regular flesh color, the toe nail is on the road to falling off and the goose egg he got the other day from the bedpost has subsided.  It has been 4 days since any major trauma!  Hopefully the curse has been lifted and he can resume being mostly accident-free..
it is Hunter after all!

Shopping Buddy

I thought having a baby would handicap me during my shopping trips.  Truth is, he is as easy going as they come.  As long as he has a full belly and a clean diaper he is happy as can be!!

Knife Drama

Kindergarten seems a little young to be dealing with knife issues at school, but the world is a much different place than when I grew up.  Last week, Jacob was having a conversation with Trevor about knives.  He wants one.  Trevor told him no, he is too young.  Jacob informed Trevor that his friend at school has one!  Trevor asked how he knew that and Jacob told him he brought it to school.  Apparently this boy had brought one to school in his pocket and told Jacob he had it.  Jacob never saw the knife.  Trevor didn't think it was a big deal.  They are Kindergartners after all.  But upon hearing which boy it was who brought the knife to school, I was a little alarmed.  Jacob's "friend" is kind of a terrorist.  He makes me a little nervous by some of his reported actions.  After explaining to Trevor what some of those alleged actions were, we decided to involve the school.  It turned out the knife was only a toy, but you really never know these days!  Jacob was not happy about telling on his friend.  He was worried he wouldn't want to be friends anymore.  While that didn't seem like a huge loss to me, I didn't want to hurt Jacob.  I told him he could remain anonymous and asked the teacher to do so.  We told Jacob he did the right thing by telling us and if this boy is to ever bring another knife or weapon to school he is to go straight to the teacher.  Knowing he was nervous about betraying a trust, I explained to him that he could do it secretly when the friend wasn't nearby or listening.
On Friday, I received a phone call from Jacob's principal.  I was very nervous.  Unfortunately this has not been our first call from the principal on Jacob's behalf.  What did he do now?? - I thought.  I had a knot in my stomach as she explained there was a situation in Jacob's class today but they had handled it and had taken all the right steps to rectify the situation immediately.  Apparently another student brought a knife to school.  Jacob was a hero and ratted that poor kid out when he showed him the knife in confidence.  I'm not sure what compels these kids to share their weapons with my child,  Nevertheless, he did exactly what I told him to do.  It is such a rare and proud moment!!!  The principal was calling to inform me of the situation and gave kudos to Jacob for doing the right thing.  Trevor and I are SO proud!!  We celebrated by going out for pizza and ice cream in his honor.  It was a celebration in itself to receive a positive phone call from the principal!!!  Way to go Jacob!!!

2nd Child Klutz Curse

Hunter has been getting hurt an awful lot lately.  I expect CPS to come investigating any minute!

This kid is trying to give me a heart attack.  This is just a few weeks after the lip incident.  While he was playing outside, he tripped and fell into the log pile.  One of the logs had a branch sticking up.  When I got to him, his eyelid had a grape-sized welt on it.  These pictures were taken after the ice did it's magic and my blood pressure lowered.  Luckily, it missed his actual eye.
We are so grateful it wasn't worse!!

The next morning it was puffy.
Here are some daily pictures to chart the healing progress.

The day after his eye incident, there was a toe incident.  We were going to get ice cream and when I opened the door to the store, his toe ran right into the bottom of the door.  His toe nail got bent pretty far back and it bled.  I'm pretty certain it will fall off eventually.
I'm not sure why all of a sudden he is so klutzy.  Every single day he gets hurt by something.  When I hear him crying I think..what now?  It is getting so exhausting worrying about his safety!

The Dentist

My boys had their first trip to the dentist.  Jacob was really nervous and kept telling me he didn't want to go.  Apparently he has a negative opinion about the dentist, even though he has never been.

Jacob had an altercation with the drinking fountain beforehand.

Hunter got a front row seat to observe before it was his turn.

I had a few extra kids in tow.  I forgot about this appointment when I told my sister I would babysit for her.  I remembered about the conflict when I was feeding the baby at 1 a.m. that morning.  Just when I think feeling so scattered is over..

Their favorite part: picking a toy out of the treasure box!  They both picked bouncy balls.

The visit went well, despite their pre-visit jitters.  Luckily they didn't have any cavities!  It makes it much easier to go again in 6 months!

Stranger Danger

Adam is starting to recognize when he is around unfamiliar people.  He is usually pretty happy and social to all.  But on rare occasions (usually right after naptime), when he finds an unfamiliar someone trying to socialize with him, they are rewarded with the pouty lip followed by crying.  I feel a bit guilty laughing at him when he does this but I think it is SO cute!!!  I love his pouty lip!

Bedtime Buddy

("You want me to sleep where??")

I lost my Bedtime Buddy this weekend.  I was happy to continue co-sleeping with him, especially since he's up so often (way more frequently than my bottle fed babies), but he was growing out of his bassinet.  When he would try to stretch his arms over his head, they would crash into the side of his crib.  I knew it was time.  He has been sleeping in his other room for naps during the day so I decided try it for night as well.  That first night I had a knot in my stomach as I went to bed without him.  I missed having him so close.  He was now just in the next room, but it still felt so far away.  I felt like I was abandoning him!  He slept just fine without me and woke up at the normal 3 hour increments.  That first morning after his 5 a.m. feeding, I just put him back to bed in my room.  He usually stirs every hour afterward and I didn't want to have to continually get out of bed to give him his dropped pacifier.  Ever since then he has been sleeping exclusively in his own room and has even been sleeping better!  He goes for longer stretches and doesn't do his early morning hourly stirring anymore.  I guess he just needed his own space to grow.  It's a good thing our bassinet is so small.  It gave me the motivation I needed.  It is also making me realize how quickly he is growing up!
