Bedtime Buddy

("You want me to sleep where??")

I lost my Bedtime Buddy this weekend.  I was happy to continue co-sleeping with him, especially since he's up so often (way more frequently than my bottle fed babies), but he was growing out of his bassinet.  When he would try to stretch his arms over his head, they would crash into the side of his crib.  I knew it was time.  He has been sleeping in his other room for naps during the day so I decided try it for night as well.  That first night I had a knot in my stomach as I went to bed without him.  I missed having him so close.  He was now just in the next room, but it still felt so far away.  I felt like I was abandoning him!  He slept just fine without me and woke up at the normal 3 hour increments.  That first morning after his 5 a.m. feeding, I just put him back to bed in my room.  He usually stirs every hour afterward and I didn't want to have to continually get out of bed to give him his dropped pacifier.  Ever since then he has been sleeping exclusively in his own room and has even been sleeping better!  He goes for longer stretches and doesn't do his early morning hourly stirring anymore.  I guess he just needed his own space to grow.  It's a good thing our bassinet is so small.  It gave me the motivation I needed.  It is also making me realize how quickly he is growing up!

Oh, yay, I'm so glad it worked out for you! I have a lot of friends who swear by co-sleeping, but my babies and I always slept a lot easier when they moved into their own rooms at a couple of months old. Whatever gets everyone the best sleep is the way to go, that's what I say!
